Murray Avenue Middle School

Some may claim that Murray Avenue is “just another basic school in the suburbs.” Although, it seems as if most have forgotten about the history and background behind the school. Just outside of the gymnasium, the year ‘1940’ is engraved in the concrete wall. In all likeliness, the majority of students have ignored the engraving, probably just walking past it. But that engraving is history: just the beginning of it. Since the school’s opening year of 1940, thousands and thousands of students have attended the school- too many to count! Coming from a student who’s lived in Lower Moreland for about a decade now, it’s clear that each of the schools are unique in their own way. Specifically, Murray Avenue is a home of sentimental memories, a place of growth, and a place that changed lives for everyone. Each student leaves their own mark in some way or another. Throughout the building’s ceilings, tiles are covered with paintings- each possessing their own meaning. Students are given the opportunity to make an impact on the history of Murray Avenue by “leaving their mark,” in their own meaningful ways. Hopefully speaking on behalf of all students, having this privilege makes me feel important and valued as a student. As Murray Avenue School transforms into the new and improved Lower Moreland Middle School, it’s clear that the welcoming atmosphere will remain consistent; and history will never fade away.
